A dog in the mist,
a quiet landscape of rolling hills,
a tree reflected in the water,
a solitary heron —
nature, serene in its understated elegance,
untouched by photographic effects.
Its fragrance, its secret atmosphere:
these seemingly simple photographs speak to me.
I feel their sincerity;
they exist outside of trends,
free from the passing fashions of the day.
Mathieu Chaze has truly grasped
what photography can reveal of the authentic…
purely and simply!
You can sense his deep need
to see and create these images —
not to impress,
but to express his being.
And here we are, walking alongside him!
Isn’t it wonderful —
what photography can do?
Bernard Plossu
“This work owes much to walking and to sustained time in nature. Both allowed for a way of noticing that became essential to the work. Occasionally, moments emerged that seemed briefly set apart from ordinary experience. Water revealed itself slowly, shaping both what I saw and how I came to see it.
With time, these moments no longer felt entirely distinct, but somehow related — as though something moved quietly between them, like the intervals that give shape to a song.”
