Exhibition publication, Alice in Wonderland 16.1.-18.12.2011, Logomo Turku.

One of the main exhibitions of the Turku Capital of Culture 2011, Alice in Wonderland, is a multi-faceted dive into international contemporary photography. In collaboration with 31 artists, the curatorial group of the Finnish Museum of Photography challenges the long-running mainstream of low-key works. The large-scale review compiled by the Capital of Culture's exhibition and event center Logomo, VR's old machine shop, offers an exhilarating whole to see. Alice in Wonderland is also a tribute to Turku as a hometown of photography and surrealism.

The name of the exhibition refers to Lewis Carroll's well-known book, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865), in which a girl ends up in a strange world through a rabbit hole. The exhibition does not illustrate the story, but uses it. It provides interpretations that move from ordinary life to imaginative worlds created or highlighted by artists. Life appears as a constant boundary between everyday life and fantasy. Fantastic everyday life and everyday fantasies meet in a way where the viewer is challenged to new interpretations and fresh perspectives.
