Between 2020 and today, the pandemic and war have also changed the social perception of images. Their functions are once again subject to a strong change. We observe how different groups try to promote or hinder the circulation of images. Today, their dissemination aims not only to contribute to objective opinion formation and information, but also to align and control attitudes and to serve interests.

The "photo Wien 2023" represents all partner institutions, galleries, project spaces, museums, etc. of the photo month and examines the topic of "Photography Lies – the lies of photography". In addition, image distribution and circulation are taken into view based on the war in Ukraine.
