"Frozen lake plus minus zero" contemplates changes in a frozen lake surface that occur when the ice melts. Natural phenomena become visible, formed only by specific temperature changes, like lines, disruptions or special cracks reminiscent of the image of neural networks. They rarely emerge and are not noticeable for long. About those pattern you may find both scientific researches and explanations, as well as ancient rituals of Japanese Shinto priests, who attribute religious spiritual interpretations to these traces.

Heidemarie von Wedel is a visual artist and writer based in Stuttgart, Germany

Starting from collections of either her own or found pictures her artistic work revolves around forms of visibility within a media dominated visual culture. In a process of re-use, re-view, re-combine, in shifting context or repetitions her work is characterized by an ambiguous occurrence of images or images on images. She founded UND EINS as a label for her bookworks as part of her artistic practice.
