La più estesa e popolosa regione d’Italia, la Sicilia è anche la più grande delle isole del Mediterraneo, definite da Fernand Braudel come dei “continenti in miniatura”. Dal 1975 al 1994, Franco Zecchin ha fotografato la Sicilia, negli anni della guerra di mafia, dell’impegno civile e delle proteste. La prospettiva che propone questo volume è antitetica a quella di un’insularità marginale e bloccata nella sua unicità, rassegnata a subire l’oppressione del potere mafioso e incapace di reagire agli stimoli dell’attualità globale. Luogo d’origine della mafia ma anche dell’antimafia, la Sicilia è uno spazio di sperimentazione politica e sociale, aperto sul resto del mondo.
