Erich Lessing was born in Vienna 1923. He emigrated to Palestine with the last ship in 1939. After several different jobs he rediscovered his passion for photography and started to work for the British Army. After returning to Vienna in 1946, he worked as a photojournalist. When Henri Cartier-Bresson saw his work, they arranged a meeting in Paris and Lessing became a member of Magnum. His reportage about the Hungarian uprising in 1956 made him world-famous. "Anderswo" is a collection of his work, whereby most of the photographs presented are published for the first time.
