Reiner Riedler investigates this trend and reports on the most absurd settings of fun parks worldwide in his melancholic photo book “Fake Holidays“. Riedler shows holidaymakers who pose in front of wallpaper showing erupting volcanoes while dining calmly. Or Arabs in a skiing hall in Dubai with outside temperatures of 40 degrees. The holidaymaker pays to pose in front of a copy of the original. Born in 1968 in Austria, Riedler spent years travelling the world in order to document these. With brief headings such as ‘longing’, ‘transformation’ or ‘passion’, the brutal irony and purchasable reality becomes apparent. Reality is what we see. And what we see exceeds our imagination by far.
