Streetlife Bradford 1970s-1980s
by Ian Beesley
Photographs: Ian Beesley
Publisher: Café Royal Books
36 pages
Year: 2017
The black and white photographs are inspired by the photographer's childhood. Ian Beesley grew up in a terraced house in Bradford and spent many of his early days playing in the street. Beesley says whenever he is working in urban areas, he gravitates towards street corners and gable ends. This collection is a mixture of work taken from his archives and more recent photographs captured on his travels.
Café Royal Books (founded 2005) is an independent publisher based in Southport, England. Originally set up as a way to disseminate art, in multiple, affordably, quickly, and internationally while not relying on 'the gallery'. Café Royal Books publishes artist's books and zines as well as a weekly series of photobook/zines. The photographic publications are part of a long ongoing series, generally working with photographers and their archives, to publish work, which usually falls into 1970–2000 UK documentary / reportage.
